# Start a campaign from a template

> Create a campaign from one of Liftify's prebuilt templates, and know what carries over into your copy.

A template is a ready-made message sequence built by Liftify. Starting from one gives you a campaign with its messages and rules already written, which you then edit like any other campaign. Nothing about a template is locked — once it's your campaign, every part of it is yours to change.

## Create the campaign

1. Go to **Campaigns** and click **New Campaign**.
2. Pick a campaign type on the **"What type of campaign do you want to run?"** screen and click **Next**.
3. On **"Do you want to start with a template?"**, click **Yes** — *"All settings will be inherited, but you can still customize it"* — then click **Next**.
4. **"Which template do you want to use?"** opens a wider window with the template list on the left and a preview on the right.
5. Click a template. The right-hand panel loads its messages so you can read them before committing; until you click one it says *"Select a template to preview"*.
6. Click **Next**.

Liftify copies the template into your account, confirms with **"Campaign created from template successfully."**, and drops you into the campaign builder on the new campaign.

<Info>
The new campaign is a **Draft**. It sends nothing until you finish the builder and click **Launch Campaign**.
</Info>

## Reading the template list

Each row shows the template's name and a one-line summary in the form *duration · touchpoint count · channels* — for example "7 Days · 3 touchpoints · Email + SMS". "Same day" means every message goes out on the day the customer enters.

The **Search...** box above the list filters by template name as you type. It searches the names only, not the message content.

The list is filtered to the campaign type you chose on the first screen.

## What carries over into your copy

| Carried over from the template | Not carried over |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Every touchpoint, in order, with its delay and its message content | Locations — no location is assigned yet |
| Email subject lines | The campaign's status — your copy is always a **Draft** |
| The template's entry and exit rules | |

Sending settings — **Sending Days**, **Send Start Time** and **Send End Time**, the CSV cap and the exclusion window — are **not** taken from the template. They are filled in from your account's own defaults in **Settings → Campaigns**, with a 09:00 to 21:00 sending window. Check the **Settings** step before you launch.

Your copy is named after the template with a number added — for example "Post-Job Review Request (1)" — so you can create several campaigns from the same template. Rename it on the **Basic Info** step to something you'll recognize in the campaigns list.

## After the copy is made

Work through the builder as you would for any campaign:

* **Basic Info** — rename the campaign and set the **Sender (required)** name.
* **Entry / Exit** — the template's rules are there, but confirm at least one entry rule is switched to **Active**.
* **Touchpoints** — edit the wording so it sounds like your business. See [Add and edit touchpoints](/campaigns/add-and-edit-touchpoints).
* **Locations** — nothing is assigned yet, so you must pick at least one.
* **Settings** — confirm the sending days and window. See [Sending days and times](/campaigns/sending-days-and-times).

## Troubleshooting

**The template list is empty and says "No templates found."**

The list only shows templates built for the campaign type you picked on the first screen, and today every prebuilt Liftify template is a **Reviews** template. If you picked **Informational**, **Promotional**, **Transactional**, or **Survey** and then chose **Yes** to templates, you'll land on an empty list. **Next** stays greyed out because there is nothing to select.

To get out: click **Back** to return to **"Do you want to start with a template?"** and choose **No** — *"I want to start from scratch"* — then click **Next**. You can also close the window with the **X** in the corner, press `Esc`, or click outside it, and start again.

**"Failed to create campaign from template"**

The copy didn't complete and no campaign was created. The message names the reason. Try again, and if it repeats, contact Liftify support with the template name.

**I want a second copy of a template I already used.** Run the **New Campaign** flow again and pick the same template — Liftify allows repeat copies and numbers each one.

**I want a copy of a campaign I already built.** Open the campaign and use **Actions → Duplicate Campaign** instead. That copies your own campaign, including its sending settings.
